Family Reunited At Last
Matthew Robertson has hardly ever celebrated Mother’s Day.
Robertson was adopted at birth, but his adoptive mother passed away when he was six years old. However, over forty years and a DNA test later, Robertson was able to celebrate Mother’s Day with his biological mother.
Robertson began his search for his parents when he was in his twenties. He hired a private investigator who found his adoption decree. The decree included the name of his mother–Mary Judith Vaughn–and a description of each parent, including height, weight, and hair color.
It wasn’t much, but it was a start.
Nearly thirty years passed, and Robertson received an AncestryDNA test kit for Father’s Day in 2020. He submitted the kit and got in touch with the cousin he matched with. He asked about Mary Judith Vaughn, who asked their family members about the name.
A few weeks later, his cousin sent a picture of Mary Judith, who was indeed Robertson’s mother.
Robertson reached out to Mary Judith, who now goes by Judy Llyod, via Facebook, but she needed time to adjust to the news. However, they soon connected with a phone call that quickly led to Lloyd visiting Robertson at his home in California.
Robertson and Lloyd had an almost immediate bond, and it is one that has continued to grow.
